Emmanuel/Nazareth Ecumenical Community Vacation Bible School
Children and staff from the surrounding area gathered at Emmanuel for an undersea adventure at Standard’s Deep Sea Discovery, GOD IS WITH ME WHEREVER I GO! With the theme Bible verse coming from Genesis 28:15. Here young divers dived deep into learning about God’s love.
A total of 35 students along with staff spent the week of June 6-10, 2016, at the Deep Sea Discovery Sea Lab exploring how God: Knows Me, Hears Me, Strengthens Me, Loves Me, and Sends Me. Many of the activities for the week included the daily Bible stories, Breakaway Music, S.S. Discovery Crafts, Curiosity Cavern Science, Pelican Pier Snacks and Games, Opening and Closing Worship. On Friday afternoon a Closing Celebration was held with students and staff participating. A picnic style lunch followed.
Our Mission offering went to Heifer International to purchase fish fingerlings (fish under 1-year-old). Next to agriculture, fishing is the world’s most important food source One fish with rice and vegetables makes a family meal with none left over-important where there is no refrigeration. With a 40 by 50-foot pond a family can earn six to eight times as much as with a rice crop. Heifer aquaculture is a small-scale self-sustainable farming that gives a satisfying quality of life.
Recognized for their years of volunteer services were: for 5 years Pastor Brian Campbell, Dee Kloss, and Dante Geissler. For 20 years Shelia Briski.

Greenwood Community VBS a Success!
Greenwood Community VBS June 19-24 was inspiring, exciting and noisy! We had 41 registered students from the ages of almost 3 through those who have completed 6th grade. These students came with lots of energy ready to gather for songs of praise, learn more of the bible stories and how they teach us as Christians in our lives today. These messages during the week are so important as our world expands. We understood not to leave our Christian values behind; we learned how to serve those around us and share the love of Jesus Christ in 2016 and the future. This week wouldn’t happen if there wasn’t a group of teens and adults ready to volunteer. Pastor Brian and Cooper the dog puppet led our openings and closings each day. We valued the musical talents of Linda Turnquist and the added energy and music motions from Madeline Johnson, the kids counted on delicious suppers and they were served by an awesome food service crew led by Cheryl Plechacek, with donations of food from many people. Tonia Wuethrich created purposeful crafts and thanks to Tiara Wuethrich and Maddie Pedretti for assistance. Children ages 3-4 years were led by Wendy Hinker with assistance from Becky Kohnert, Melissa Grambsch, Lexi and Jonah Hinker. Julie Plautz taught those in the Prek and Kindergarten ages with assistance from Korinna Johnson, Joan Turnquist, 1-2 grade, Pastor Asafa RAJAOFERA 3-4 grade and Pastor Brian 5-6 grade. Additional assistance from Kelly Nielsen, Heather Brehm, Janice Clark and Cathy Langreck. Thanks to members of Our Saviors for allowing the use of this building and the air conditioning to keep us comfortable.
We will have a Combined Worship Service for all three churches at Longwood Park on Sunday, August 7 with a potluck to follow. Once again, Art Petke will be our musician, and our hymns will be done to polka tunes. We will also have a baptism as a part of the service.
Everybody should bring their own plates and utensils. The churches will provide coffee, a punch and cups.
One of the actions that the Parish Agreement Committee made was to ask Pastor Brian to oversee a “Name the Parish” contest. This will not replace any of the church names, but will give an identity to our three churches working together. It would be used for activities in which all three congregations are working together, and could be used for social media and website purposes.
An example is Pastor Brian’s idea of “GLOW Lutheran Churches” with the GLOW standing for Greenwood, Longwood and Owen-Withee.
Entries are due in writing or email by Labor Day (September 5) to either Church Office. The winning entry will be selected by the Parish Agreement Committee. Please contact Pastor Brian if you have any questions.
