Pastor Brian is delaying the start of our By Heart class. It will not start this Tuesday, but will have the first session on Tuesday, October 3, and meet on consecutive Tuesdays after that. There is a delay in getting books due to suppliers running out of copies.
Based on the success of the From Conflict to Communion class between members of Lutheran and Catholic churches in our area, Pastor Brian will offer an additional class, meeting Monday evenings (6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.) beginning May 1 that will study the life and writings, especially the Small Catechism, of Martin Luther called Mondays With Martin.
I am also talking with Father Steve and Pastor Dan about repeating the From Conflict to Communion later this year, and possibly having a study of the other ecumenical agreement, Declaration on the Way.
Adult Education Opportunities
Pastor Brian will be leading two series of classes this Fall.
“Everything I (Should’ve) Learned in My Confirmation, But Have Forgotten”
The first is a look at the materials covered in Luther’s Small Catechism. In six sessions, (every other Sunday night, from September through November) an evening will cover a part of the Small Catechism, as well as an overview of Scripture.
This class is a great opportunity to refresh what you learned in Confirmation, or if you were raised in a different tradition, to get to know a Lutheran understanding of key elements of our faith. This is a great opportunity for those who are not officially members. Sessions will be from 7:00 pm to 8:40 pm at Our Savior’s.
September 13 The Bible
September 27 The Commandments
October 11 The Creed
October 25 Lord’s Prayer
November 8 Baptism
November 22 Communion
Themes of the Lectionary
The other class is a series of studies of the Narrative Lectionary lessons, based on a theme. We will meet Thursday evenings, from 7:00 to 8:00 pm to talk about the upcoming Sunday lesson. People are asked to sign up for a 4 to 6 week session, as we discuss the lesson and overarching themes.
Sessions on September 10, 17, 24 and October 1 will discuss lessons on the theme, “What’s In A Name?” “God’s Community” will be the theme in October. Sessions in November and December will focus on the theme of “Change.”
Sign up sheets will be in the Gathering Areas at both churches. If you have any questions, talk to Pastor Brian.
